Attorney Carol Cioe Klyman was a panelist at the Mass Bar Association’s sold-out 6th Annual Probate Law Conference on November 9, 2018. She and co-panelist Dale M. Krause of Krause Financial Services in De Pere, Wisconsin, focused on planning to conserve assets for the support of the community spouse when the ill spouse is in imminent need of nursing home care.

“Middle class families can deplete assets at a rapid rate when facing catastrophic medical costs,” said Klyman. “With careful planning, using strategies and tools allowed by law, ill spouses can qualify for MassHealth benefits to cover basic nursing home costs while their healthy spouses can retain assets to cover their living expenses.”

This is the fourth time Klyman, an elder law specialist, has presented at the annual probate conference, which has sold-out attendance drawn from throughout Massachusetts and adjoining states.

“My past presentations covered such topics as marital deduction planning, drafting irrevocable income-only trusts for long-term care planning, and the benefits of testamentary versus inter vivos trusts to protect disabled family members,” said Klyman.
